The Greek God of wine, Dionysus
Dionysus is one of the most interesting Gods of ancient myth. He is a paradox and the legends about him can appear confusing. The god of wine 
is sometimes included in the 12 Olympian Gods, but is interchanged with Hestia. The earliest cult images of Dionysus show him holding a fennel 
staff tipped with a pine cone. In symbolism, the pine cone represents the pineal gland which is believed to secrete melatonin. Grapes also contain 
melatonin, an antidote to fight stress. Dionysus’ association with wine represents the intoxicating influence of somebody in a state of illumination. 
Enlightenment is a state of pure bliss, joy and love. Wine is said to liberate the mind of self-conscious fears whereby revelers become carefree. 
But given wine is also associated with partying and thus “ritual madness” we also see the dualistic nature of Dionysus.
